Bought a couple weeks ago

1986, short wheel base, 2 wheel drive, 4 speed.

Was factory AC with 225,
Now has older 2 barrel 225 installed, no AC :( , and deleted all the wiring/sensors.

I changed the oil, cleaned all wiring, fixed cluster, went through fuel sending unit, new fuel lines, spray in bedliner, and other TLC.

I'm waiting on a drivers side floorpan, and need a new shift knob with factory 4 speed pattern. After I install the floorpan I am having all new catless exhaust system ran.

Should make a solid daily/work truck.

Nice truck! I recommend: (a) reinstalling the AC; (b) using a stock closed element air cleaner that will hook up to the cold air induction system the truck was built with and the heated air intake system the truck was built with; and (c) unclamping the exhaust flapper valve and letting it work and do its job.

Thanks,

The engine was swapped (or dinked with) by the last owner. a) AC was scrapped by him.
b) I may do just that as he left all the ducts and stock 1 barrel air cleaner.
c) I wondered what in the world the clamp was there for.
I have been strictly vintage Fords until now, this slant 6 is new to me.

I dropped the pan, the engine is very clean, and makes not a peep when running. I would like to know where and how to decode this engine to find out exactly what I have.

I'm not sure if he bolted on the 2 barrel manifolds/carb or swapped engines entirely,

and as you guys may know...Its no fun fixing a previous owners (rigging). The wiring was my biggest issue, but all is redone now.

I had to install a 318 throttle cable immediately, he had the stocker installed which was about 2 feet too long and put the entire cable in a bind. The gas pedal was either all the way out, or to the floor. Not fun for a standard.

Great job on the repair, I love your truck. You will love the improved hp/mpg of going with a better exhaust system. That pre-cat or whatever it is off the manifold is killer, it felt like a different truck when I replaced the one im my old d100.

Thanks,

Yea, I saw the (pre cat) and a second cat convertor just a couple feet behind and said, "I bet that engine has waited 27 years for that to be removed."

I told the exhaust man just cut at the manifold, run straight back with 2.5in pipe, with a turndown at the rear, and put a glasspack somewhere in between.

I wanted to split and run duals, as my 250CI six powered Maverick was split, with dual glasspacks, and sounds aggressive.

I assume this Slant will sound buzzy or like a mini diesel with a sinlge glasspack. :D I'm fine with either.
