Building a 225 and just curious as to what you guys think it will make to the wheels. 1971 225, stock bottom end. Shaved head .120, engine builder valves, ports cleaned up. Clifford intake, some kind of 600 4 barrel (undecided) Distributor recurve, erson high flow am cam, double roller timing chain. Hooker super comp headers, no exhaust. Tranny is a 904, regular driveshaft, 8 3/4 with a spool. |

It should make some more power than stock, but very little low end torque (driveability). Id say the 600cfm is unnecessarily large, try a holley 390. |

This is the unknown? What specs.A 600 Edelbrock may be just fine. A 500 may be better. A Holley if you enjoy fiddleling with it all the time. I have run 600's on everything from bone stock engines to my race car and they ran just fine. Your results may vary! Rick |

If you can get the SCR to 11:1 on that cam, you should have about 180hp to play with (and maybe a bit more). I was able to drop another 1/2 second off my time going from the holley 390 to the holley 600 because the throttle plate relationship compared between the small bore carb and large bore carb was different. Most mid-range performance slants will want 450 cfm for max throttle the 390 is a bit short and the 450 Holley is not the best, 600 cfm holleys with the brown spring in the secondaries will do the job (and you can get a good rebuilder on craigslist for $50-75. The 500cfm Edelbrock would be another good choice as well. (Hi-po engines like this tend to idle better with the bigger carb and tune the idle screws easier than the little carb...i.e. better to be 1/2 turn out than 3.25 turns out) Erson AM high flow cam is 286/296 .551 lift, was ground during the Erson group buy. -D.Idiot |
