I finally got my car back out on the road, I started four summers ago. I would like to thank everyone who contributes on this site, what a resource. Greg's Dart was my inspiration, Doug Dutra's articles and posts have been awesome. I met MadMax once at the spring fling in Van Nuys, he started his car and we compared notes. I built a complete power train, front and rear suspension, changed to a A833 four speed, 8.75 with a Tru trac posi and 3:91's. The engine made 250 hp on the dyno (although everyone in this area says that this dyno is light by 10%) this would be consistent with Mike Jefferies estimate of 275-285 hp at the flywheel. Either way this thing pulls better than a lot of V8's I have owned.
It was worth every dime it cost. I didn't get the bugs out of it in time for our last drag race here in October but I'll be there first race in the spring.
What a rush taking friends for a rip, a lot are surprised that it is a slant,
I have an electric header opener and a line lock, man is it fun.
I have pictures of the entire build. Thanks again to all. Derek

Derek, the color of that car makes it look really serious, I love it! Judging from the details in those few photos, I would very much like to see a thread with all the pics from the entire build process, and I am sure that all other members would like that too! I hope you can find the time to make it happen.

Olaf

Thanks for all the comments, now that I have the pics figured out (I think) I'll put an effort into a pictorial / thread.
As to the wheels the are Cragar Eliminators.
The color is a GM factory, 2000 Cavalier. It was on it when I got it so we used it again in this re spray. A really good friend did all the body work, paint, wet sanded and buffed it. You can read a dollar bill in the finish, he does excellent work.
I was going for a drag car theme, so I built it heavy duty for street and strip.
IMO it sounds evil, some people hear it idling and won't believe that it is a Slant Six until you open the hood. I told Mike that I didn't mind a radical idle if it made more power, in fact now that it runs I love the rumble.
I will try and figure out the video walk around thing and have it running.
I t has been a big challenge but it has paid off, all the information on this site is the MAIN reason I have had a good result. I can't stress enough to build a combination, everything has to work together. Thanks Derek

Thanks Greg, I am hoping for ET's in the 14's like your Dart. My only passes I made were with the stock combo/auto and it went 18:53.
I'm intending on trying the 3:91's first to get the bugs worked out, then depending on RPM at the finish line maybe 4:10's or 4:30's. The cam works from 3-6000 RPM, it is still pulling hard when I shift at 5800. The torque is all in at 3400. If you shift it fast enough it doesn't nose down at all.
It is still setting too high in the rear with the 340 replacement springs, I had weight in it for 6 months which brought it down 1.5''.
I can't wait for spring...

Thanks again Derek

Yes I have been reading posts from awhile back on the topic of worn springs. Mad Max says the same thing.I have the originals that I could put back on and I could reuse the new ones on my Dart since it is just stock.
What RPM did you try and launch at in the Dart with the stick and slicks?
I have the two step MSD for RPM limit for launch and top end.

Regards Derek

Good day to all, got two time trial runs on my Duster on this past Saturday. It went 14;87 first try at 92.5 mph!! I was really pleased with that as it was my first pass in this configuration. In fact it was only my 3rd pass ever with a tree. I have nearly lived at the drag strips locally over the years but never really got to race.
It grabbed and bogged on the second try and slowed to a 15.14. There is a lot more in the car for sure and cant wait for spring.
The clocks weren't printing 60' times but it was 6.28 at the 660' mark.
I can use a bit more gear, I have 3:91s but it is only turning 5000 at the stripe. I was shifting at 5900.
I set out to run as quick as magazine tests of STOCK 340's back when, around 14.50 - 14.75.
and with Greg's Dart as inspiration I am almost there.
Thanks again to Mike Jefferies and all contributors to this site.
Derek

Hi Derek, Are you sure the times are correct? if you are running 6.28 at the 1/8th Mile then your 1/4 Mile should be in the 11's.

Maybe the clocks are goofy or a typo?

Anyway, good luck with the Project!
