I just had my motor built about a year and a half ago, its got the Mopar '528 lift cam. I just started it up this year and it sounds a bit noisey in the valves. Maybe that's normal, but I wondered how often they have to be checked for lash. I've only put about 800 miles (of easy driving)on the motor since the rebuild. It does seem to idle smoother though now than it did before, almost loosing a bit of the rumpity-rump of the cam.

After my valve job, went back and adjusted lash at 500miles, don't drive it that hard so only check it once a year or 1000miles whichever comes first.

It all depends on how hard you drive it. 20-40k is a fine interval for stock motors that are not revved too hard. If you have a big cam and like to spin it to 5000 or more regularly, then 3-10k miles is a more reasonable interval, in my experience. This assumes no abnormally fast wear is going on. I usually do mine about every other oil change, which is 5-8k or so.

Also, if you just assembled everything rebuilt, you definitely have to readjust after a few hundred miles since things (pushrod ends, valve seats...) are breaking in.
