What is a good gasket forming sealant? I'm talking the kind where you have no gasket, but simply the sealant. Is there a well known brand to stay away from? Thanks.

I have been really enjoying the Permatex gray sealant. Works very well! The local auto shop turned me on to it....

'Right Stuff" by Permatex is excellent for making gaskets, followed by the "Ultra" blue/black/grey line by Permatex.

I ended up using the Permatex Ultra Grey, mostly because it was cheaper than the "Right Stuff". True confessions: I think I have a can of "Right Stuff" somewhere. Just can't find it. Time to clean the garage.
