What year? It makes a big difference.

Here's what I have weighed (with caps, but nothing else):

'64-66 Blocks = 162-166 lbs
'68-72 blocks = 165-169 lbs
'84-up cast crank = 140-145 lbs

Lou

Lou, What about the blocks between 72 and 84? Do you have data on those? My "new" block was cast in september of 82. The head is dated '83, so assume the engine was in a 83 truck of some description. Is it likely to be the lighter variety? Do you have data on the crank weights? Thanks.

Sam

If I knew more about blocks, I would have posted it.

Cranks:

'64 - 72 = 76 lbs (plus or minus 1lb or so)
'75 = 74-76 lbs (early cast crank)
'84 - 85 = 60 lbs

I have no data on 82-83 motors. Some say they are light cranks, but I don't know the year cutoff. Best to weigh everything you have.

Lou

OK, Thanks. I was hoping you had a typo in there and meant "before" 84. I make that kind of mistake all the time. Oh well. I can measure mine when it is torn down.
Sam.

Thanks, Sam. I'll be interested to see what you have in that 82-83 motor.
