Post subject:  gear oil

I have switched to 8.75, power lok clutch type posi, is this gear oil OK?

A racing buddy of mine suggested this is a really good gear oil for rearend, but I wanted to know if anyone here uses it or has a recommendation for rearend oil type/brand.

thanks,

Brian

Heavy shock proof is way overkill for a slant 6 powered vehicle. It's meant for racing not long term road use. Use their regular 75W-90 GL5.

I would use whatever you can find that is good quality 75-90 or 80-90 gear oil (Castrol, Valvoline, Mobil...), and make sure to use an additive for the suregrip, preferably the Mopar additive. That really makes a difference in chattering and longevity of the suregrip.

Post subject:  royal purple

I went with Royal Purple (85W-140) and friction modifier. It is much quieter now, actually.

I also installed a drain plug...

my slow leak in the pinion seal is now gone! I've been driving it for a few hundred miles and I see no signs of leakage whatsoever, dry as a bone. That rearend oil that I took out did seem much less viscous than the royal purple.

FYI,

Brian
