Can anyone tell me if there is an oring intended to sit just below the collar of the '66 style dipstick and what size would be appropriate?

Seems my dipstick has a slight recess just below the collar that might be for an oring or just some byproduct of the manufacturing process.

I have several and none have an oring.

I put a dab of RTV on the dip stick tube end that goes in the crankcase..

O-Ring on the dipstick tube? Are you talking about the dipstick tube for the transmission?

Not the dipstick tube but the actual dipstick. All modern cars have 2 or 3 orings on the dipstick to ensure it seals well against the tube. Our transmissions also use dipstick seals. I know other cars of the era have some means of sealing the oil dipstick (for example, 442s have a rubber sleeve on the dipstick).

This makes me suspect that just below the collar of the engine oil dipstick, in that small indented section, there should be an o-ring or something to help seal the crank case. If not, I guess that's fine too, but if I'm supposed to have one I'd like to get it on there.

Modern cars are fume sealed as part of government hydrocarbon containment among other reasons.
