hi sages- i may need to flare a new metal brake line for a volvo 240. have double flared these pipes for american cars and many a b and f bodies. but the volvo uses what is called a bubble flare. as those ofyou experienced know, there are two steps to making adouble flare- first squash down the cut pipe in the hand vise using the screw clamp with the proper mandrel adaptor . second remove the mandrel piece and clamp down the tapered end of the clamp into the hole of the squashed end. this will flare out the opening and create the flare. on the volvo ive been told to just do step one which creates a bubble flare and youre done. but since i have looked at bubble flaring kits i notice the mandrels are different. do i need to acqure one of these kits($$$) or just do step one with my double flaring kit. if anybody here has experience with this , put me on the right path. know you may be thinking what the hell- this is a sl6 forum, but the volvo engine is a slant 4 which mopar considered making when the k cars came out. thanks tons my brethren. bob f

You need a bubble flare kit.

Yep, get the kit, different animal. Take a look at the Cal-Van flaring tool, its a neat gizmo. Available in single size too so you don't have to pay more for a whole kit, in the $20 range.
