Ive searched here and with so much discussion over wheels and back spacing etc... having a hard time finding simple numbers.

what are the bolt patterns??

sbp & lbp (is it 5" x 4" & then 5" x 4.5"? )

My 65 valiant has 13" rims. with tires that have now given up the ghost.

time to upsize to 14" just not even sure where to start.

i have also overheard that some rims from ford rangers will fit the smaller bolt pattern mopars? i may be wrong here.

also admittedly... i haven't even measured my bolt pattern yet...
I'm just assuming its the smaller bolt spacing.

but if i knew what the actual measurements ought to be first, I could then go out and confirm (while also teaching myself what point to measure to and from to determine bolt spacing)

Yep sbp is 5x4 and lbp is 5x4.5


I'm 99.99% sure you have sbp.





You need some 14" with the sbp.

either 4.5" wide or 5.5" wide

With the 4.5, the tire would be 185/75 14

With the 5.5 you can get 195/70 or 205/70

I believe all the Ford Ranger/crown Vic, etc. use the 5x4.5 (big bolt pattern), but a slightly smaller hub register than our Mopars.

I have a pair of factory SBP 14" steel wheels with tires if you're interested. I'd sell them for less than it would cost for you to come get them in Bremerton...

FYI- the 1985-1987 slant powered 1/2 ton trucks and vans had a 5x5.5 bolt pattern, same as Ford 1/2 ton trucks and vans.

I'm going to search the local junkyards for some rims this weekend.

And I guess I have a couple clarifying questions...


what concern should I have about offset? for standard p185/75 14 tires what would be too much / too little?

regarding zorgs comment about hub register...
what sized hub shall I look for?

finally... when measuring width... ie. 5x4 by 4.5 wide or 5.5. wide.. is that just a measurement from outer edge of rim to inner edge of rim.

Stock Mopar RWD "offset" is about 4 inches of backspacing. This means it is four inches from the rear of the center of the wheel (the surface that contacts the face of the roar/hub) to the plane of lip of the back of the wheel. Lay a board across the back of the rim and measure the distance from the edge of the board closest to the rim to the back of the center of the rim. This should be about 4 inches.

Ideally you will find a stock Mopar rim or an aftermarket rim with a larger center hub hole that will fit Ford or Mopar vehicles.

4.5 or 5.5 wide rims are measured from the inside seats of the bead.

Good luck finding 14 inch rims.

Yes, shipping would be ridiculous! I wasn't sure how desperate you were to find some, or if you needed a mini road trip, so figured I would offer.

Not many cars ran the 5x4" pattern, so unfortunately wheels are often pretty hard to find. I could very well be wrong, but I think it is pretty much pre '76 Mopar only. Some 80's and early 90's FWD Mopars had the same pattern, but way wrong offset. I wish you luck in you hunt!

Oh, man, if you are wanting to stick to the 5 x 4 bolt pattern you are really going to have a long search. 5 x 4 was a Mopar only pattern used on all pre 1973 A body vehicles and the 73-76 all drum brake A bodies.

You are far more likely to find a set of old slotted mags, Cragars, or Centerlines in the 5x4 bolt pattern than find a stock set of 14 inch SBP rims.

Haha I can back up that sellers comment about the excellent condition of those wheels... I sold them to him about a month ago.
I'm curious if he had fitment issues with them on his 72 Dart. 8" is fairly wide, especially for a rig with sagging original springs. The fit great on my buddys 74 Duster...

I fit a pair of 15x10s on the back of my brother's 74 Duster. Dusters/Dart Sports/Demons are in a class of their own with regards to firing oversize rear wheels. Space in every other A body is much more limited.

235/60/14 is a pretty large tire to try and fit on the front of an A body. My brother's Duster has 68 Dart front fenders and is running 15x7 front rims with 4 inch backspacing and we had to go down to 206/60/15 tires to get clearance in the front. When you are running wider rims, tire profile and rim offset is critical.

I ran 235/60x14 with a 7" rim on the front of a '66 Dart. It required rolling the fender lip and trimming the front bottom lip of the wheel well. Once the front end was lowered down to fit the wheel it looked quite nice.

The same trick on '71 Demon didn't look as nice.

my truck is a 79 d100. the orginal wheels where 15X8 with a 5X4.5 bolt patern and a 4 3/4" back spaceing. The tires were a 245 70R 15. I have switched to a 3" back spaceing on the wheels and now am running a 295 50R 15 tire. the front rims sitck out a inch past the outer finder but nothing rubs or binds..... The easest way to mesure back spaceing is the set the rim down face up on a flat serface. Mesure from the ground to the back of the mounting flange (where the studs go through). This is the back spaceing. Not to be confused with offset. So if it is 3" from ground to rim than you have a 3" back spaceing.
