Can I redrill a rear axle and press in lugs in a 4.5 inch pattern?

Considering upgrading to disc brakes and want my front and rears to match and need to go to a minimum of 15 inch rims.

Or are there other axles from other cars that will interchange?

Which axle are you trying to do this to, and which car? There may not be room to drill a new bolt pattern with the access hole there.

I will go out on a limb and assume you are referring to an a body 7.25 axle.

(b) You could try and find the axles shafts out of a large bolt pattern 7.25 and swap them in, but the question becomes, why?

You cannot swap LBP 7 1/4 axle shafts into a SBP housing. The end of the housing and bearings, retainer are different.

Ah! Something was bothering me about that, and you correctly pointed it out.

I've done this re-drill, and as mentioned, you should clock the new holes so as to avoid the access hole, not just half way between the old ones. I clocked mine so as to retain equal amounts of "meat" on both sides of the new hole in question.

Also, the register lip I.D. on the 4.5" pattern rims that I could find was larger than the 4"ers. This left the only register as the lugs & nuts, requiring ACCURATE location of the new holes.

The people at Right Stuff Detailing tell me their kit for 60 on disc brake conversion kits have the right drilling for the Valiant wheel pattern. Not that I am replacing them any time soon but it would save having to change patterns.
Also summit has a raft (ok 3 or 4 manufacturers)of 5x4 15 inch wheels including US, American racing, Crager ss and morpar ralleys.
