I've picked up an old DC or MP slant wind age tray including the 4 special main cap bolts. There are washers with them. I noticed that the length of the bolts are the same length as the stock main cap bolts; the length of the threads are the same too. If no washers are used with the stock bolts, why are they included with the tray bolts? Should they be used?

The only washers I've ever used went between the tray and the head of the bolt to space the tray away from the crank.

Measure & check carefully, for the following...

I have seen the supplied DC windage tray main bolt "run-out" of threaded area. They bottom-out and torque where the threads meet the shank... and not under the head of the bolt, as needed. If that happens, you will not hold the main cap tightly to the block and it galls / pounds-out the surface where the cap meets the block. (main cap "walk")

I have seen these bolts "a little long" to the point where they bottom-out into incomplete threads at the bottom of the threaded holes on the SL6. The extra length can also "pinch-off " the oil feed going down to the crankshaft.

Tray to crank interference can be an issue, especially on the long stroke 225's. Sometimes you need to add spacers to move the tray away from the crank.
