How do you check if your ignition coil is ok?

If you use Pertronix electronic ignition can you use a particular coil that means you do not need to run the wiring through the ballast resistor, i.e. connect the two wires from the electronic ignition directly to the coil.

Thanks

What does your petronix instructions say? I glanced at several sets of instructions at their site & all said to:1) remove the ballast resistor, & 2) use a coil with the reccomended primary resistance (1.5ohms for V8, 3.0 for 6 or 4 cyl.)

Your stock coil will probably work ok with the ballast removed but might (eventually) overheat if the petronix unit runs high dwell at idle.

The pertronix 1 needs either a 3 ohm coil or stock coil with ballast.

The stock coil without ballast will burn out the pertronix.
