How do you check if your ignition coil is ok? If you use Pertronix electronic ignition can you use a particular coil that means you do not need to run the wiring through the ballast resistor, i.e. connect the two wires from the electronic ignition directly to the coil. Thanks |

What does your petronix instructions say? I glanced at several sets of instructions at their site & all said to:1) remove the ballast resistor, & 2) use a coil with the reccomended primary resistance (1.5ohms for V8, 3.0 for 6 or 4 cyl.) Your stock coil will probably work ok with the ballast removed but might (eventually) overheat if the petronix unit runs high dwell at idle. |

The pertronix 1 needs either a 3 ohm coil or stock coil with ballast. The stock coil without ballast will burn out the pertronix. |
