Has any Canadians change over to the mini starter, like a 318ci. did you have to change the gear from a 10 tooth to a 9 tooth to make it work,
Did you have to cut the starter housing ?

Thanks for your time

Mike

If I remember right a starter from a 2000 Dodge ram will work and is small as a mini. Someone will post a yay or negh to this latter......

it depends on the year of motor, we used the 9 tooth starter until 67 up here.

i dont think you can easily swap gears, i think the best bet is to swap torque converters

The Canadian-built cars through '66 (not '67) originally used a direct-drive starter with a 25mm-diameter, 9-tooth pinion. It has the same bolt pattern as the gear-reduction starter with the 32mm-diameter, 10-tooth pinion. To use a mini starter on a '60-'66 Canadian-built slant-6, you must either install a flywheel or torque converter with the correct ring gear for the large-pinion starter, or install a smaller pinion on the mini starter. See here (I no longer have any such parts)

On early cars swapping to the later bolt patterns and systems makes long term sense.

If you travel with your car you will be thankful to be buying a stock Dakoto starter instead of a modified one.......or a Canadian only 50 year old part.
