I re built an engine a while ago that had a crack between the rear most head bolt thread , and the lifter/pushrod gallery. this is the bolt that the oil feed for the head goes around.

Water would make its way up the head bolt thread and mix with the oil feeding into the rocker shaft. Or into the pushrod gallery and into sump.
Not sure which but oil had water in it.

So , I acquired another engine, stripped it and sent it to the local engineer for a clean , crack test , and re-bore.
The engineer calls me, and tells me that this engine has a crack between two cylinders at the bottoms of the barrels.
He also said he has seen a slant with similar cracking before.

Is this cracking common or surprising?
