Well my wheel bearing went out (again) and this time it took out the spindle and rotor. Low and behold no one sells a new or remained spindle. So my questions are this.
1: Is there any car spindles that are the same as a D100?
2: Dose anyone know a place that has a spindle? (other than a junk yard)

I have the light weight axle 3300 LB. I belive i can get one at my local junk yard but im learey about using old parts on the steering system.

It's salvage only for the spindle unless you want to lower the truck with aftermarket Dakota drop spindles. Every other part of your truck is used. car-part.com

Why do you think you keep losing wheel bearings?

LOL well i know i lost both the iner and outer bearings because every single piece of them came out when i pulled the rotor. And the rotor is bad because the bearing pieces marred it up so bad they the new bearings wouldent press into place. I had to take a impact driver to the retaining nut and force the rotor and bearings on the spindle.
Im going to replace everything from the spindle out on both sides just to be safe.........

Oh, you murdered your bearings with an impact wrench! Got it.

NO. The original bearings went first. I used a impact wrench because the spindle was to marred up to get the new bearings on. So I had to use an impact wrench to "press" them on.

and you did this on purpose, WHY?
As soon as you had difficulty getting the new bearings on the spindle, you should have stopped, determined what the problem was, and corrected it.
Those particular pieces are what keep you wheels attached, help you to maintain your steering control, and keep you from killing people because your wheels haven't become dislodged from your front end.
You put a lot of innocent people in danger with that stunt.

The second set of bearings was murdered. The first ones probably died of neglect as they did on my D100. Tapered roller bearings will take a lot of thrust, but they won't take being hammered. My guess is that you could have dressed the spindle with a file so that the bearings slipped on and avoided the impact wrench. When my '74 D100 lost it's left front outer wheel bearing the rotor chewed up the bottom of the spindle enough that it wouldn't have supported the bearing properly. I went and got a used spindle and rotor.

if you can't find spindles real local,,

www.car-part.com

is your friend here..

without rubbing it in, have to agree with Josh here,
a bit of clean up with a file would have been the best approach,, initialy..

however now, since you will be changing out spindles,,this would be the time to consider changing out: tie rod ends, ball joints and control arm bushings..

1) check out rockauto.com,, don't know that they do, but if they have a close out going on the parts can be had at a nice price
2) before starting the work, search / post on this forum,, as there is the easy ( relatively speaking ) way and the really hard way..

good luck

I did this because it was 9 at night. No part stores were open. And I had 10 miles to go to get home. Luckly I had some new bearings in the glove box just in case. I know the danger of bad bearings and spindles so I dident take the freeway or go the speed limit on the back road. I was just trying to limp her home so she dident get towed.

So I got all the parts today and will tear into the truck tomorrow. I just got one question. Do I have to detach the coil spring and shock to remove the spindle IF I choose not to replace the ball joints? Or can I supoort it with a jack and just lower it some?

Cover your a$$....run a chain through the coil spring. I've heard of them slipping out, and under quite a bit of force. Don't take chances with your head being in proximity, if it lets go.

I also decided to order a steering stabilizer kit as my truck never came with one. Rock auto had one for a decent price.

You might still have to use the compressor. I don't remember if the front shocks slip up through the coils or not, but either way, to get the spindles attached back to the ball joints, you'll have to compress the spring a bit. The springs, even extended, will tend to lift the truck before you can get the ball joints started back into the spindle.

Good luck

Roger
