I'm swapping to large bolt pattern, so I need new wheels. (8.25" rear, factory disc brakes up front, new springs so I should have factory ride height.) I'm leaning toward 15"x7" for good daily driving, and I'd like to keep a stock look. As I see it, that means one of the following:
- steelies with dog dish caps (base option for '74 Darts)
- rallyes (upgrade option on '74 Darts), or
- find a way to keep the original "deluxe" 14" wheel covers on 15" steelies.
What's your preference? I don't really love the fake fancy look of the wheel covers, but they are original to the car and they go with the shiny trim on the sides, rockers, and wheel openings (all of which I also could do without, but again, it's original to the car). Here's the profile pic.

I have a set of four with about 60% of the hardware necessary to use the factory center caps. The rest of the hardware is available for cheap from Arizona parts.

Funny. I have a project starting about 6 blocks east of Desert Valley Auto Parts in Casa Grande at the end of the month.... I may have to stop by after I get the project up and running to see what they have in the salvage yard...


On that Dart, Rallyes would look good (15x7 Rallyes are kind of $$$, 14x6 or 14x7 rallyes are a bit easier on the pocket book)... If that is out of the price range steel rims with dog dishes would be the next choice (I have a set of H4 steel rims waiting to go on the next Duster Project that will be just like that...)

My vote would be for the classic chrome Magnum 500. I have a set of 4 brand new ones and was hoping to use them on my wagon. With the conversion to rear discs, they just won't fit

Be careful with 15x7 rims...make sure the offset is zero...the front fenders are entirely unforgiving. I bought a +6mm offset, my car is a hair lowered, I rolled the fenders slightly, and still they rub when turning if I'm not careful...225/60/15 tires might also be of-fender here...maybe if I'd stuck with the 205s or 215.

I actually ignored advice from The Great Mr. Ehrenberg and am suffering the consequences.

Positive offset (+6) moves the wheel away from the fender compared to 0 offset.....

I'm positively offset by your challenge. Luckily, I'm negatively offset by your accuracy. Yes, I meant negative -6mm offset.

I've also offset the problem with some negative camber, which looks aggro, probably is wearing my tires faster, but saves the fender. And saves the shocked look on the passengers' faces when they hear the awful grinding. And it is awful.

Next time I'll get narrower tires up front and see how much that helps.

15x7 rims can fit comfortably on an A body, even the 60s A bodies with the tiny front wheel openings, provided the wheels have the correct backspacing (4 inches +/- 1/4 inch) and the tires have a very low profile. I have 15x7 rims on the front on my brother's 74 Duster with 68 Dart front fenders and they clear fine. The rims have almost 4 inches of backspacing and the tires are very narrow (the exact numbers escape me right now).

Do you mean narrow side-to-side or low-aspect (narrow sidewall)?

Low aspect. The tire size on the front is is 205-50-15. It is the same overall diameter a the original 13 inch rim tires that can stock on the 67-69 Darts, but it is wider.
