Post subject:  Fleetside pickup bed wood side rails/racks

Anybody have any plans of how to make a set of wood side rails/racks for a shortbed fleetside 76 D100 pickup?

Thanks!

Greetings,

I just searched youtoob for visual ideas.... Wood is not my favorite medium.

This is what I am going for:

These are factory side rails on a Warlock truck. Of course, my truck has a standard fleetside bed, not a stepside, but I do have two pockets on each bedrail that I hope to use as mounting points for the rack. I think I will just have to get some oak 2x4s and stainless hardware from the lumber store and get creative. What is annoying is that the pockets in the bed rails aren't 2x4. They are something like 1.5x 1.75. I will have to cut the 2x4s down so they fit in the little pockets.

I have found dodge connection and am saving up money to get some of their products. However, they don't sell bed rails.

I also know a 2x4 not truly 2x4 due to shrinkage, but the stake pockets are much smaller than 2x4. Incidentally, old 2x4s actually ARE 2x4. I have come across a few while remodelling my house.
