So, After way way way too long. Seymour's Valiant is finally ready to race again. There were a few minor issues and an internal scraping sound that had me worried for a while but everything was identified and corrected and it seems to be ready to race. Dad helped me get everything finished up the last couple of weeks. We got the engine broke in properly changed and spent some time fixing leaks and little things and all that's left now is to send it down the track.
I took it for the inaugural run through Dads neighborhood just to make sure everything was ok. Made a couple of full throttle launches and ran it through the gears and everything seems good to go. If you have never launched a race car with a trans brake in your neighborhood I........well I guess I don't recommend it, but it was a lot of fun today. (maybe a bit on the scary side) We got a few pictures after I cleaned off the 3 years of dust.
So a quick update on the engine.
It is the same block, crank, camshaft, webers and general setup seymour had. We just rebuilt it using:
weisco/K1 pistons & Rods compression ratio of 13.8:1 up from 11:1
New cylinder head that (on the flow bench anyway) out flows the old head significantly.
Running a new multi layer steel head gasket that if it hold up we will try to make more/sell (they also fit the aluminum blocks)
Other than the slightly bigger bore, higher flowing head and extra compression, everything else is the same.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at mason dixon next week and if all goes well I'm hoping to start tuning and making this even faster.
