Is the pipe plug on the right rear side of the block a water port or oil port?

Block cleanout port to drain and clean out the water jacket around the cylinders.

Temperature sending units are best placed in the cylinder head or near the outlet / coolant exit point so you can get a reading from the hottest running zones in the engine.

Based on that... the thermostat cover is a good location for an aftermarket temp gauge.

Do they sell thermostat housings with that already drilled out or is this a home brew sort of deal?

Is there enough room in the housing for the thermostat if the sensor is mounted in it like that?? I just looked at my housing and how the thermostat sits in it and it looks like there wouldnt be room.

I guess I can always go this route
