Will a mopar performance 460 lift cam part# 4529342 work with a stock 170 block and cylinder head without piston/deck clearence issues? Does the MP 6 into 1 header or Clifford long tube headers fit on a 170? Or do I need to use shorty headers. Motor will be going into a 67 Dart. I have some spare parts laying around and want to use them. I never worked with a 170 before. :)

Brian,It would probably clear, but you will need to measure. I found a Crane S-264 cam (264 dur-434 lift) will work with a head that is milled .100, but nothing larger. When I pulled the head after a couple of years, the pistons had faint valve marks. I.m thinking, that cam would be too much with no compression increase.

I have cut valve pockets in cast pistons for free with a die grinder. I'd say you'd need little notches, as Charlie said.

Thanks guys. I might try to find a smaller cam for the 170 if I even ever use it. I think Im going to put that 460 cam in a 225, run a hyperpak intake and see what it will do.

I know that Pete McNicholl's build had similar limitations on the cam so he ended up using the Chrysler 300 cam grind available at the time at 284/284 .430 lift.... but that was with Jahn's popup pistons and an SCR at 13:1....

Well, You'll certainly have a ton of valve to piston clearance then!! Hey, if
You decide to "clean" the 170 out of the garage, I'd be interested. :D
