Am i going to have to remove them to get the starter out? The solenoid is going bad and i have to start with a large screw driver. Looks like i can move it back some what.

From where I'm sitting it looks like yeah, you're going to need to pull the headers to remove that starter. Do yourself and your starter a large favour: instead of putting back the big starter, put in this block-hugger unit, which as described here and here it requires only very minor fiddling to install, gives you way more starter/header clearance, cranks a lot faster and quieter, draws less current, and is otherwise just better.

(That said, if you can start the car by putting a screwdriver across the starter's two terminals, the problem isn't with the starter's solenoid yet, it's with the starter relay mounted elsewhere.)

Additionally, on the chance your headers aren't SS or something exotic, might be good time to ditch the header wrap while you are at it, or if its been run with wrap for awhile, the headers.

Say, Mike......Isn't that the starter relay on the extreme right margin of your pic?
It might also be that gizmo at the right lower corner. See if either one of those clicks when you turn the key.

Thanks everyone for the help. I traced the thin wire from the starter to the relay. Unplugged it .and found the connection was a little corroded. I need to clean it better, but it has started every time.

Bravo! It doesn't take very much to stop low voltages.
I'm an industrial maintenance electrician and modern machinery uses 24vdc for control power, so I've got some experience in the field.

Well i drove it all weekend. Started every time, until yesterday.
New starter relay installed today back to starting normal again.
Lucky i found a parts store with one in stock.
