I have a 16 foot (Big Tex) trailer and I want to mount an electric wench so I can pull my car up on the trailer. How much wench do I really need. It's a 65 2dr sedan. Not sure what it weighs.

Since it's only pulling the car up a ramp I'm thinking I really don't need a monster wench but I don't want to under buy. I've been using a 2 ton hand wench and it's been working fine.

I use this one. Got a pulley with a hook, to double line it. My ramps are short and steep. Winch handles it fine, and the wireless remote is a plus. I've actually used it to load a 4,000+ car, with no issues.
Don't forget the 20% off coupon.

Watch for a HF sale.

I've seen that winch for $49.99. If it's not a coupon for $49.99, you can then apply the 20% off (sometimes there's 25%) coupon to the $49.99

HF also will have the snatch block (might even be on sale) for a double pull.

Winch. W-I-nch.

A wench is something completely different. Always makes me chuckle when I see ads for trucks with "a 2000 pound wench on the front bumper!" Of course, if you find yourself a wench that helps you load cars on trailers or can pull heavy loads, you know it is a keeper.

I got mine for about $49.00 a couple of years, ago. I usually, drive my car on the trailer, but the winch is nice to have if you have a problem, or need to load at the house, at 4 am.

I have been contemplating adding a winch (not a wench, as mine is happy to watch vehicle loading procedures from the front seat, sipping coffee...) to my trailer. Probably a stupid question since several have said they use the HF 2500# model. Is this enough pulling power? I understand I can use a snatch block to double its capacity but I want something strong enough to pull my 3/4 ton diesel up the ramps if needed. Also, I was a little concerned about the small size of the cable on the lower rated units. Perhaps I'm overly concerned and/or overthinking this, but would like some feedback from real-world users before I pull the trigger on this.

The 2500 lb class of winches does fine for an A-body that rolls, but if you have a trailer heavy enough to support that Cummins Dodge then, yes, I would buy a bigger winch. 5k+ would be my preference.

I used to use a 2500# winch to load cars on the trailer. I found it very under powered, even on a double pull. I now have an 8000# winch from Tractor Supply. I still use it in a double pull just to slow down the cable speed. You will never regret a bigger winch.

I agree. Get the biggest winch, within your budget, and useage. In my case, it was just for occasional/emergency use, and I didn't have the money for a several hundred dollar item. If I were loading fairly large vehicles, on a regular basis, I would have purchased a larger, better quality unit.

My wench is not electric. She runs on tacos, enchiladas, chips, salsa, cilantro, and guacamole. You got a good one.

Spelling (and punctuation) saves lives!

I'll be more careful how I ask the question next time.

It sounds like I won't regret getting a HD winch.
