It's all original, sucking air through the oil-bath filter and untouched carb. And has one intake lobe worn to a circle. Given the condition, I wasn't expecting much more. What's hilarious is how little hp it made at higher RPM, it was down to about 32hp by 4000RPM. It made that 55hp at a mere 2700RPM, peak torque was 117@1600. ![]() |

At least you can say you can easily double the output of your engine and have it still be naturally aspirated. |

My '61 D100 appears to be original too, except the intake and exhaust manifolds are from the '70s. At least your truck moves on its own power! I'm getting there - slowly. I expect everything will be slow with this truck. |

Having owned a 1973 D100 with a dead cylinder (burned exhaust valve) I can relate to the dismal power output. 55-60 MPH is not a great top speed. I should dyno my '54 Dodge pickup and see how close it gets to the 123 gross hp printed on the tag. |

Josh, you could do that, but keep in mind what was posted is on a chassis dyno, not an engine dyno. I suggest still not too bad for a half-worn-out, 60's farm truck. Roger |

Roger, I'm aware. My 1954 C1 truck's ID tag states 145 certified gross hp and 123 certified net hp. I'm curious to know how much of that net hp makes it to the rear wheels. A highly reliable source states that 88% minus about 10hp should make it to the rear wheels. People claiming 30% drivetrain loss practice a foolish numbers game and will grossly over state the horsepower consumed by the engine accessories to support big engine horsepower numbers. The history of Dynojet's correction factor is telling. Part of my interest in this is that the numbers for my 241 ci V8 are pretty close to the numbers given for an early 225 as was discussed in the cooling fan thread. http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... al#p457499 |
