I have thinking about fuel injecting my slant 6 and looked at the tech articles posted on this site. My question has anyone looked at the MPFI off of a 3.0 V6 out of the late 80's Chrysler Mini -vans would this system work as well as the GM conversion ? |

The chrysler parts are for an engine with a similar displacement; so, it might work. The problem is that the Chrysler computer's firmware is pretty much locked down and the box is epoxy sealed, if I remember correctly (hence the reason you can't get a performance "chip" -- you need a performance module or a performance computer). The reason a lot of people use one of the GM computers is that the program, or at least the fuel injection map, is on a removeable chip; and, therefore the computer can easily be reprogrammed. These particular computers were common in trucks or any performance oriented car (camaro, turbo buicks, etc) from the late 80's and early 90's. Many of the later GM cars have computers which are locked down (sealed) like the Chryslers. I'm not sure how much is programmatically adjustable in either the Chrysler or the newer GM's. |

Pstone, I used a GM set-up primarily because it is batch fire (I could keep my distributor), and it used a MAF sensor and is therefore self calibrating. Also, because these are abundant in junkyards, and there are some good books on the subject ("How To Repair & Modify Chevrolet Fuel Injection" by Ben Watson) . I'm not sure, but I believe that the Mopar setup uses fixed speed density calibration. I think that this would make it very difficult to use on an engine with a different volumetric efficiency, even with the same displacement. Bob D |
