So I am finding if I stage the car the same every time, and just light the second yellow. then leave as soon as I see the last yellow (not anticipating it) I run in the neighborhood of .040-.080 lights pretty consistently. Tire pressure are 34 front and 19 in the back(Drag radial). Is there good way to consistently knock off .020 -.030 off those times? Trying to anticipate the last yellow is a crap shoot. And bouncing in a little "extra" on the light is not the easiest to be consistent with either. So any advice from the experts? Am I right in thinking a taller tire would help this? Current tire is a 26" tall in the front with not a lot of room for much more. A 28' one may fit?? Thanks!!

Try counting to three when the first bulb goes on then leave. That technique can be quite consistent, if it's not quite right to give you the times you want try different numbers or a different cadence. On the other hand you can win a lot of races with lights between .040 and .080, maybe you should leave well enough alone, any green light beats a red one every time.

I remember a guy, Bob Maxey, he ran out of Budds Creek.
Killer bracket car racer. Ran Pontiacs.
He was pissed when they started printing R.T. on time slips.
He was so in tune with his car and the tree, it took away a lot of his advantage.
I saw him click his car off at the 1st MPH light because he KNEW the other guy was out!
He was right.

Around here .040-.080 is being in a coma. I was .026 at 41 at thd first race this year and got welded to the tree in No Box.

For a better reactoon time you want shorter fronts, not taller. As said before, play with starting line rpm. I used to count too.

I have the reverse issue with my car. I have to wait until the 3rd yellow is full bright or I go way red. I have a pair of taller tires I might try.

Practice, practice, practice.

I use stall RPM. If the car becomes inconsistent, then the suspension is on the edge of a "loading up" point, or there is something about the engine/trans (like a little bog/hesitation) to work on. For best consistency, use a 2-step and change launch RPM points. I always (try) to leave on the last yellow, but my brain has been fried the last few years. I light the second stage bulb, then I try to ONLY look at the last yellow and adjust the car accordingly.

Every car is different regarding reaction time and stall speed. A 100 RPM change can make a repeatable difference. I regret selling the Slantkota sometimes, because the thing was just so dang easy to launch.
