It seems like someone told me that they eliminated the oil pick up tube in their engine and ran a hose from a new pick up in their pan, up to the side cover of their oil pump. Can someone confirm that and tell me more about where they tapped the side cover for the fitting?

Thanks

It would be a special oil pump cover with a big suction side cavity. Or if you used stock pump you can see the 2 bumps in the cover one is suction one is output pressure side. You would drill and tap suction one but be sure to plug the oil pickup tube port in the block.

Yes Mike that is the plan. I was just sure that I saw a picture of someone else who had done this. We will be giving this a try . Will report back on how it works.

So, what is the benefit of an external pickup with a stock pump?

Well it eliminates the pick up from breaking off and or cracking. But that is not the reason we are doing it.

Ryan's new big cube, blower motor is about ready for testing on the stand. He had the guys build him a pan for road racing with all the baffles...etc. But he originally planned on running an external oil pump. So a new pick up was installed in the pan and an AN fitting exits the side. But now we are not sure there is going to be room for the external pump and the guy wants to run the engine on a test stand shortly. So if we can temporarily run the factory pump and just modify the pump cover, then he can use that for the break in and get it ready for install in the car. He really is not going to know if there is room for the external pump until the engine is in the bay.
