To my Slant6 mavens, can the distributor be pulled and indexed one tooth back? The timing was set and although set correctly the distributor is at its limit. Could the timing chain be causing this?

Do you have the early distributor with a flat hold-down plate, or the later one with the claw mount?

The early plate mount has another bolt and slot on the back of the distributor, which you can use to rotate the plate on the distributor and adjust the range of the regular slot. This bolt is much closer to the center of rotation, so a little movement goes a long way. If your timing is correct but you're just at the limit of the main slot, I'd adjust the backside slot maybe half a bolt diameter.

To me, finding that broken distributer drive gear is a very fortunate "needle in the haystack" type of find. Good Job! And thanks for sharing this unusual situation with us.

I tuned up my 1970 225 Barracuda and found the distributor is moving all over the place. The hold down bolt is tight. I am guessing the hold down is broken, or now looking at this forum, one of the hold downs had an additional bolt on the back of the distributor. I am looking for more information on which it is.
Thanks!

There is a bolt in the underside of the distributor housing that holds the bracket to the distributor. That end of the bracket is also slotted for more adjustment.

Thank you, Slantzilla! It took me a while to get back to my various. That secondary bolt was very loose.
