I thought I read a post about using window caulking between the manifols and tail pipe flange to seal leaks. I could not locate the post so I may have been mistaken on where I saw this trick.
Will this technique hold?

I recently had that happen, and I used some 'exhaust' cement (balck goo in a tube). It did the job, but I had enough pressure and heat built up I toasted the 'sandwich' between the intake and exhaust manifold. What ever you use, you'll have to make sure it holds up to some pretty attrocious heat. -D.Idiot |

POR15 makes a product called fireseal2000 thats made for like cracks in exhaust manifolds, etc. I figure if that doesn't work, nothing will. No way caulking will hold you can easily melt that with a 15w soldering iron let alone the several kw of heat going out your tailpipe. |

I went ahead and tried the window caulk trick on exhaust flange, after about a 5 mile run the stuff is holding up. The caulk seems to get very hard after it burns. I am holping some elasticity remains. But for now no exhaust leaks. I also used the same treatment on the flange I made to replace the rusted out choke pot. |

I had heard a while back of a special caulking formulated to be used on exhaust systems. I think it was called Gorilla Snot, or something along those lines. Heard it was pretty good. |

This is the name of a product used by guitar players to help hold a pick when your hands sweat. Sorta like "stick'em". I wonder if it's the same as what you heard ... |

A quick search of "gorilla snot exhaust" turned up a few cases where people have used gorilla snot, aka the yellow colored 3M Super Weather strip adhesive, to hold things in hot places. |
