So I am having an issue removing the inner tie rod (61 Valiant): The exhaust pipe prevents me from using my little tie-rod puller on the driver side.....Any tips from someone
who has done this before?

I would think you could pop it loose with a pickle fork and BFH.

Are you replacing it with a new part?

Pickle fork works well but will sometimes destroy the grease boot.

Yes, replacing with new one. I'll try the pickle fork; for some reason, that method seldom works for me... Maybe I need a bigger hammer lol

You can also heat the centere link with a mapp gas or oxy aceytline torch if needed to open up the ID of the tapered hole on the link. Be careful with fire prep as the greasy bits will provide fuel for the flame.

I have never needed to do this - Plenty of hits with a good hammer and fork should do the job.

Pickle fork will work better once the rubber boot is removed. Rubber will absorb a lot of the force exerted by the fork, making popping the joint open much harder.

Agree on cutting off the boot first. Use at least a 2lb mini/hand sledge.
