Well, I've done the unthinkable and lost the keys to my 1964 Plymouth Valiant. I'm sure they're somewhere in my home, but I'm ready to throw in the towel on looking. What's the easiest way to make a replacement? Should this car have any kind of key code by which a new key can be cut? Otherwise I guess it's taking out the ignition cylinder and a lock cylinder and taking them to a locksmith, huh?

Thanks friends.

A good locksmith can make keys for both on the car.
Might not be cheap.
It would be cheaper to take the door, trunk? and ignition to his shop.
Not easier, you might destroy some difficult trim parts getting all that stuff out.

And yes, new owners got a key code that could be used to duplicate your keys.
However, finding that information might be as hard as finding your keys in the house!

Some one might have what you need with some old lock sets from parts cars.

Good luck, and Welcome!

Thanks so much for the reply! Yeah, I probably don’t have that. Was hoping I could find it from the VIN somehow, but perhaps not. Not too worried about removing the lock cylinders, although if you have an idea where the service manual describes disassembly of the ignition switch, that’d be helpful.

If I remember correctly on a 64 there is a small chrome ring on the dash side of the cluster.
You turn that with the correct tool, or a small fine screwdriver carefully.
After you remove the ring, the assembly drops out from the rear.
Disco the connector and off you go.

Sounds easy enough! I’ll report back about how it went, thank you!
