Guys, Hoping to buy a complete A833 4-Speed from a Mopar Truck (1966–1971).

I have a 1965 Dodge D100 i've made a few mods to and I I'd like to get my hands on a full set up for a direct swap. If anybody is within a few hundred miles of Milwaukee Area i'd be interested.

On another note, my transmission is current a A745 3-Speed. Anybody have experience with doing a swap on these?
I have access to a very nice 1970-1974 B&E body full transmission set up - but i believe that will require a bunch more hassle with bellhousing, linkage, shift assembly, etc.

I don't think they put an 833 in a truck back then. Only 4 speeds in trucks were the granny low gear ones like an NP435.

Now later (started about '77-ish) they put an 833 OD in some 1/2 ton trucks.
Inside the trans they switched around 3rd and 4th, 3rd becomes "direct" (like your current 3rd gear) and they swapped the gear cluster and combo of gears of what used to be 3rd in the old 833 to a combo that gives you an OD 4th. But not in 60s trucks.
Also the truck 833 OD is externally the same as that B/E trans that you mentioned. Same length same spline count, same position for shifter mount etc. No different process to install that as would be to install the later truck 833 OD. Only difference is you won't have an OD gear with a B/E 833. Absolutely no different in amount of work to put either into that truck.

No such thing exists.

Contact brewers performance.

You need a complete 833 OD from a 1981-87 Dodge D100 or d150 Slant 6 truck.

Modifications will be needed. It is not a bolt in.

I suggest you put this in the parts wanted section or check your local Facebook Marketplace / Craigslist.

Also Check with Brewers performance.

I've sent him a PM.
But no they didn't put an 833 in trucks like yours/ only cars, and they didn't have an OD 4th gear until mid or late 70s
E bodies were history by then and I don't think they put the 833 OD in the the later 70s b body.

The work required to put a 833 out of a B/E in that truck would not be any different than what would be needed for putting an 833 OD out of a newer truck in there. Neither will be a simple bolt in.

The oldest truck ive seen with the 833 OD was like a 78. I know the short tail version of the OD trans started with the 1976 F bodies, and 1976 (which was the last year of) the A bodies.

Ok - if I’m trying to make this a cruiser would this be the ticket? Or am I better off with the NP435? I don’t tow much more than my 18’ boat and 18’ Shasta.

I’ve never seen one like mine with 4 speed OD and feel if it’s paired with a 3.55 gear ratio I’d have a slick set up.

You could always go the big money option and follow the guide for the T5 transmission install. Buy a NEW T5 transmission from summit. It wouldn't be cheap, but it would give the best range of gearing AND have a steep first gear for getting it moving.

1st gear in an np435 would be useless for a cruiser.
You would never use 1st

I had an OD 833 a couple years ago.
It was in a case with a steel extension housing.
It had a large output shaft, vs, the smaller 904 slip yoke size.
I assumed it was from a 70ish pickup truck.
Maybe 80's.
It was the same size as an A Body transmission.

What did Dan Brewer tell you you need?

These were made in a few variations.

I have Seen them in all AL with an AL Case / AL Tail / AL Side cover.
Also, FE Case / AL Tail
And AL case / FE tail.
Most of the OD's I have seen had the 727 Splined output, but I suppose some could have the smaller 904 output shaft.

Ii have seen other Non OD 833's with the 904 splines, early Slip yoke 4 speed - non-OD versions.

I feel like this should be in the transmission or Parts wanted section..
My OCD is perturbed by this 8)

That's because there wasn't such a thing back when your truck was new
