Hi all
I've had my Dodge D100, I figure shy of 9 years
Back about 6 years ago I noticed combustion issues , & used as is , but intime
problem could not be ignored I'd start it up once in awhile for general health & drive a little .
Most recent was a 2 year no starting Well yesterday - decided it's time . I put in a new battery primed the carb & as is the greatness of this slant 6 truck , started up and ran just like it does , temp 185 no blue smoke A fine motor at 91,000. I can drive truck a little but guaranteed it will stall out causing a need to prime carb . Maybe float is restricting never see raw fuel smoke from tailpipe . The motor can run at a safe higher rev .
---------------- If its a simple fix .... any hints be appreciated ------------------
But it's my feeling to cut to the chase . I might need a pre lean burn carb along with a pre lean burn electronic ignition distributor , cause i can't rule out my Lean burn device as issue .
I see a wire from distributor body. not even hooked up
The fuel pump is new & not restricted it easily fills a bottle . I have a lot of what ifs ! but need a path
I have other cars so I just want my knockaround truck back to life Restored as is - - Patina look
She has it in her , Just so nice .

How old is the fuel in your tank?

Do you have a 2bbl or 1bbl intake manifold? Which carb? Year of the truck and a picture of the carb would help a lot with suggestions of a course of action.

Go to the electronics page and read slantsixdan's HEI upgrade page. If you still have an actual lean burn setup on the car it is past time to swap to a HEI unit.

There's nothing on that truck that's not a simple fix. Nothing.

1985 1 bbl manual trans . This coming weekend I plan to take 2 gal fuel can and directly feed to fuel pump . Once I establish it runs the same ( the Issue ) then i know fuel sender is good .
Then an HEI upgrade is the path
My start is Oreilly auto 1975 1bbl & Distributor with vacuum or No vacume $144 carb $150 distributor I'm assuming 1975 is the year to copy . It's time for me to learn & research
Thanks

You definitely want a distributor with vacuum advance.
