regarding my carb leak, which way is the rubber tip of the inlet needle suppose to point, towards the fuel line or towards the float?

live and learn, right?

I'll say one thing, though. I've learned all kinds of stuff from this frustrating, yet worthwhile experience. I bet I could take apart and reassemble my carburetor with my eyes shut now. Well, except for the inlet needle. I'd have to peek on that.

We all knew you'd find your problem if you did not despair. You see, it's the little things like that what make this hobby interesting and enjoyable.

Look inside where the "rubber tip" fits (fuel line side) and you'll see how it acts as a seal. Based upon how much fuel is in the bowl, the float rises and falls. Mock fit everything together and work the bowl up and down with your fingers and you can see how the little tab will press against the needle valve and press it into the tapered hole, effectively sealing off the fuel from entering and over-filling the bowl.

If the needle was installed backwards, you may want to replace it. The tip of the needle is easily damaged. You can buy just a needle/seat (brass fitting that screws into the carb bowl) seperatly.
