I have been reading alot about different disc brake setups to use on the A-Body. I have a '63 Valiant that I am modifying and wish to put the larger 5 on 4.5 disc brakes on the front. Has anybody done this swap? Is it a possible swap? What donor cars do I look for?

You're looing for a 1973-1976 A-body (Dart, Dart Sport, Valiant, Duster) with front disc brakes....the most important pieces are the spindles and upper control arms, they should bolt right in....but,

this will change you to large bolt pattern so your wheels will change and you'll want to upgrade your rear axle unless you like to carry 2 spares in the trunk...

DusterIdiot - Thanks for the info. I just wasn't sure if this would work all the way back to '63. I have a donor '74 Valiant/Dart ex police car. Not a pursuit car though....darn....and of all things it has a 198 in it. I am robbing the rods for my 225, and now I will rob the front suspension pieces also. The rear is only a 7 1/4, so I think I will keep looking for the 8 1/4 rear. Will I have any special problems with the drive shaft?

You will need to shorten the drive shaft if you are upgrading the rear from the 7 1/4.

If that rear is using the large bolt pattern, you could swap it in to eliminate the two spare tire issue. You wouldn’t need to modify you drive shaft then.

You will also need at least 14 inch rims.

John, thanks for the info. The rearend in the donor car is a large bolt pattern 7 1/4. I want to get a large bolt pattern 8 1/4 instead. I have both 13 inch and 14 inch in the small pattern. I have a set of 14 inch big pattern as well. Also, my son works at Les Schwab and I can get just about anything I want in regards to wheels/tires. They can get new (not NOS) small and big bolt pattern ralley wheels with trim rings and super looking center caps.

Bob

Not only will this work all the way back to 63,as far as I can tell it will work back to 60 with the very first a-body,the Valiant.Im currently upgrading my 60 Val to small bolt discs from a 70 duster.
