Hello,

This summer I purchased a pretty cherry 1968 Dodge Coronet Deluxe 2 door post. It has a 225, 904, and an open 8 ¼ rear end. The engine has 108,000 miles and runs great. I purchased the car with the intention of ripping out the driveline and upgrading to a 383, 727, 8 ¾ Suregrip, etc. However, after searching around, I’ve found a few performance parts available for the slant six, and now I’m wondering if maybe I should build up the current engine.

I guess the main thing that made me think I could build up the current engine was the parts on cliffordperformanceshop.com, specifically the Hyper Pak intake. Has anyone on the list used this? What kind of horsepower can I get out of this engine and still have it be street-able?

Has anyone here built up a B-body slant six? I realize that the cost would probably be about the same (dropping in a new driveline vs. upgrading the current), and that I wouldn’t achieve the same level of performance, but I’m kind of attracted to the weirdness aspect of having a B-body slant six car.

Any advice/help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

Congrats on finding a 2dr POST coronet. That's a pretty rare car.

If it were mine Id probably restore it to original, then cave in to a few minor upgrades after a few years. Good on ya for saving the slant motor! Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

We've had several B and C body guys in and out of here...just have to use the search command...

I think one guy was pulling down some pretty nice numbers with 3.73's and a mild buildup with 4 barrel in a '65 Coronet...

Shouldn't be any reason you can't build up an eye-popping fun ride that actually can get fair mileage too...

There are lots of "repop" Hyper-Paks out there, here is the latest report from a new user:

Be sure to check-out some of the Hyper-Pak engine build-up info in the articles section under "Slantsickness"

Thanks so much to all of you for the info! I read the articles, and that seems like quite and interesting build to do. I’m still not sure I’d be happy with the power output from the HyperPak/.060 over/milled head/big cam option, but it is something I will seriously consider.

If anyone is interested in seeing some pix of my baby, shoot me an e-mail (tom_enroth@yahoo.com), as I don't have a way to post them here...

Thanks again,

Tom
