I have been collecting parts for a KH 4 piston disc brake swap onto one
of my 61 Valiants. I got the control arms, spindles, rotors, calipers.
And 1st surprise - the stabilizer struts on a 61 bolt to the bottom of
the lower control arm - so I got a set of struts and a k-member to be
sure the struts fit. But surprise 2, The Steering box mount on the
k-member is different, So I got a steering box and the linkage. This
61 Valiant seems to be morphing into a 66 dart !

Okay now for the question - Does anyone out there know if the stock
manual steering column from the 61 Valiant is going to mate up with
the 66 dart manual steering box while using the 66 dart k-member in
the 61 Valiant chassis???

Any other surprises I am about to stumble into?

NO THE SHAFT WILL NOT WORK, IF THE LENGTHS ARE THE SAME YOU MIGHT SWITCH THE STEERING COUPLING & IT SHOULD WORK, THE 60,61 VALIANT HAS A SMALLER SHAFT DIAMETER THAN THE 62- UP CARS , PLUS AS YOU NOW KNOW THE GEAR BOX MOUNTS DIFFERENTLY.GOOD LUCK & KEEP US POSTED ON THE RESULTS!! READ SOMEWHERE THAT THE K-MEMBERS WOULD SWAP 7 GET YOU THE SUSPENSION YOUR AFTER ,DO NOT KNOW IF ANYONE HAS TRIED THIS..

Yes,All the 62 up stuff will bolt in as long as you change the K frame.....AKA,none of the 60/61 steering stuff left in the car...........

sst - Did you mean none literally.
I am hoping to keep the 61 steering wheel and steering column.
The swap would start at the steering box and replace everything
upto and including the tires.

I guess I need to get out in the garage and see if the splines on
the 66 steering box and the 61 coupler will mate up. The length of the
61 column looks like it should work.

The splines on the 66 gear box and the 61 steering coupler are the
same. So if my measurements of the Kmember(s) are correct - It
appears the 66 kmember and 66 gear box combo place the
steering coupler at the same location as the 61 kmember and
61 gear box combo. So the 61 steering column length should work
and the 61 coupler will work !
Good - I already bought enough parts for this project.

I should have noticed this before - the 66 dart kmember needs a
differnet type of engine mounts than the 61 valiant kmember. So
I will be tracking down the 63-66 front engine mounts for a 170 slant
both the metal and the rubber isolators.

To quote roseana dana from saturday night live (back around 1980)
It just goes to show ya jane if it aint one thing its another !!

I don't know if there is any difference, but you might want to check the oil pan and pickup.
