If you can't do a burnout with a 4 speed something is REALLY wrong.

I have an 84 d100 slant/4spd, and am wondering if anybody can do a burnout with a stock 1 barrel. This truck has a disadvantage w/230000 miles, and think that something is wrong, and think this might be a good way to find out if something is wrong. |

Chances are if you attempt a burnout something will go wrong if nothing has already. That's very hard on your powertrain. A simple road test will tell you everything you need to know about how it drives. |

I've done many a burnout in the '71 1bbl. Of course the tires are crap. |

Then there is definately something wrong with my 225 - 4 speed as well,... and I got a 2 barrel!  OK, i CAN do a burnout, but it feels like instantly killing the car  But that's why I'm working on another 225 engine right now. Figured it would be easier to buy an extra block instead of pulling the one that's in there now.

Alright, if you feel you MUST spin your tires to ensure your car has normal torque, may I suggest running the front end up to a concrete barrier or something solid so youre at least not stripping the brakes out of the truck while you do this? I still think pulling out to pass and romping on the gas is just as effective an indicator of engine power and doesnt involve roasting tires and brake linings. But if that's what you really want to do, at least soak down the tires with WD40 or Javex. The tires will break loose a lot easier and the Javex will create plenty of dramatic stinky smoke to enhance the effect. Some stunt cars actually have bottles filled with this stuff in the trunk with washer motors and nozzles aimed at the tires so the tires will break loose at the touch of a button. The now-defunct Insta-Skid corporation prepackaged kits like this for second unit companies like William F. White a few years ago. It would be easy enough to build. |

had a friend who had a volare w 1 bbl slant and 4 spd. overdrive.There was absolutely nothing wrong with this car,ran excellent.Could NOT lay as much as a patch of rubber !!! Believe me,we tried !!!! |

tire smoking is fun and might do a little myself but there are more effective ways to check your engine for problems my grandfather has a 84 ram with a super six that wont smoke the tires auto though but it spinns well in gravel and sand but he hauls hay with it so it's just geared wrong for tire smoking got a 75 cornet that wouldn't burn ruber either 400 big block in it so some car do and some don't so don't put to much faith in that as a test |

whether or not you can spin the tires depends on a lot of things... road surface tire quality engine torque clutch quality rear end gearing I wouldn't use that as an indicator... Even though I've got a 4spd and 3.55 gears in my D-100 it won't spin the tires. Of course that could be the crappy clutch and good tires. Seriously, If you have 2.94 gears & good tires on the truck, for example, you're not likely to spin the tires. |

| You would have to raise the pressure in your tires before you try to lay some rubber, even check your rear suspension, to much jumping is bad for your rearaxel. Lasse |

Last year we took the GodsRods Duster to one of our local Mopar Club car shows... I entered the burnout contest... tried repeatedly to spin the tires in a puddle of water to no avail... I drove away in shame and embarassment. It was in its original high mileage, pulled out of a field and tuned up state with big tires and 2.76 gears. I was really looking forward to going back this year with the new pumped up engine with four barrel and headers, new transmission, 3.91 gears and a set of really skinny, really high pressure, soaked for a week tires. They're not doing a burnout contest this year! Oh well. |

The only way I could manage spinning the tires in my 71 duster (225, 904, 2.76 rear) is on dry asphalt is by doing neutral drops. |

8.4:1 motor with 15k miles on it, stock head, 2 bbl cast iron manifold, 2 bbl 500 holley, 3.23 peg leg. Of course this was an old setup but it shows the slant do have some power. Pete

nice pic. my video i made of my stock slant doing a burnout didnt turn out quite that good. i made the video as a visual aid while doing a persuasive speech over why the dodge dart should be considered the greatest car ever built. |

my slant has dual webers, dutra duals, stock auto, and stock 2.76 rear end. NO WAY CAN I LAY RUBBER, my brakes suck already caesar |
