Hi folks,
this is Christian from germany writing. I just bought a 62 Lancer. I opened the booster (Bendix) today and found some bad rubber inside. Brake fluid must have entered the booster, there is a little rust inside the housing. The big, round rubber seal inside is shot, an so is the metal spring that pushes the seal against the booster housing. Is there a way to save the booster? As one can open it, it should be rebuild able, I heard some boosters are not (like the one on my 72 Duster). I will swap the disc brakes from the duster to the lancer next year, maybe the big booster from the duster fits the tight lancer engine bay. But I would like to keep the lancer running with the original brakes until then.
Question: Is there an overhaul kit available for this booster?
Thanks a lot
Christian

Hallo, Christian!

Congratulations on your 1962 Lancer...put up some pictures! Do you know if it was originally delivered in Europe, or if it is an American model?

There are specialists who rebuild brake boosters here in America -- search "services" for the word 'booster' at www.hemmings.com .

I have disc brakes on my 1962 Lancer and I do NOT have a booster, it is not needed.

Will it be hard for you to pass TÜV with your '62?

Mfg,

DS

Hi Dan,

I will try to post some pics soon, stay tuned.
It´s a swiss Dodge, built in Schinznach.
TÜV... don´t want to talk about that now ;-)
Actually it´s in good condition, but the roof is badly damaged, pics will show.
Later,
Chris

I have seen that car on ebay.de! Looks as if a tree or something fell on the back of the roof. Red car, right?

I had no idea they assembled '62 Lancers in Switzerland -- thought they only did Valiants. I guess this makes sense, given the relatively large number of '62 Lancers that were sold into Sweden.

Does your '62 have rückblinklichter mit rotlicht oder mit gelblicht? I do not remember the year Germany began to require gelb...I have retrofitted my own '62 to have rotlicht (brems- und rücklichter), gelblicht (rückblinklichter) und farbloslicht (rückfahrlichter) and still appear as though the factory did it this way, even though an all-red system is still(!) allowed in the USA. I wonder also about the type of hauptscheinwerfer fitted to your '62...Are they e-typgeprüft, perhaps mit glühbirnen H1 und/oder H4? Or are they USA-typ (mit fest eingebauter birne)?

My interest comes not only from owning a '62 Lancer; I am also in the automotive lighting profession! (Sorry I do not know enough German not related to lighting...)

Yes, it is the red car that´s been on ebay a few weeks back. I posted a few questions here and at .com about it.

There were quite a lot cars assembled at the Schinznach factory. The 60´s a-bodies from switzerland I have seen were all in remarkable good condition and were all very low mileage (40k-80k miles) cars. I was told, that´s because switzerland is a small country... no joke! Before I bought the Lancer, I looked at a 64 Dart gt 4speed /6, 40k miles, really mint condition... someone else bought it for 6000 Euro (US$7320).

Mine has red lights only at the rear. Cars built from 1970 on up have to be converted to yellow turn indicators to be street legal in germany...

The frontlights are H1 or H4, but definatly not the sealed-beam type. I will have a look tomorow.

I have to leave the computer now,
later,
Christian
