How much does a 7.25" rear complete with brakes and drums weigh?
I was just wondering because when I picked that sucker up I really didnt want to drop it on my foot, or into the trunk.
the rear of my car is really sagging right now with the rear, springs, drive shaft and 2 wheels and tires in the trunk.

Awwww...c'mon... I hauled one in my beater Duster...the junkyard guys didnt believe me that the with the brake drums on it it would fit perfectly into my trunk... :D

I just shipped one recently and it was something like 212 lbs for a wooden crate, the 7 1/4" rear with drums and hardware, and 2 torsion bars....

So probably around 150 lbs?

It's a good idea not to drop any rear axle on your foot, but if you had to pick, the 7 1/4 is a lot lighter than a 8 1/4, or 8 3/4!

I agree, depends on brake type and year, but the 7.25" axle is around 150lbs complete. 8.75" is around 210 and 8.25" is around 200 from my sources.

I now have a Ford Mustang 5-lug 8" rear in my possession (minus brakes), and I will weigh it in a day or two.

After the guy burned off the u-bolts I got the wheels off and the rear in the trunk fast enough he came over and asked where it went. In the trunk I said, he goes I was going to help put it in there dude. Thats OK its just a little mopar 7.25 I told him. It does fit nicely in the trunk. It was way in the back and made the car handle funny.

Which reminds me of the time I was loading one into the trunk of a 66 and managed to pinch my finger between it and the trunk lip  .
Cost; one large bag of ice and one fingernail  .

A 7.25 with 10 drums was a good fit in my GT trunk, heck, I think I have room for two, trying to navigate stop and go LA traffic on the 15 mile drive home with 9 inch drums and having to unload it by myself not so fun. I guessing around 150lbs also.

The Ford 8" I have is 130lbs with no brakes at all (no backing plates even). My guess is it would weigh about 160-170 with all brakes on it - not bad. Unfortunately, it looks too wide for my Darts/Valiant (61" flange-flange), so it must not be from an early Mustang - drat.
