I need help determining what rear-end I have. The car is a Canadian 1970 Dart custom, 225, A904, etc.. It has BBP axles and -if I counted right, a ten-bolt cover with a plug. I'll count the bolts up again tomorrow when my brother brings the car back, but I'm 99.9% sure I remembered all the numbers between one and ten. Sounds like I need to replace me some wheel bearings and I think I'd like to buy some that fit.

Thanks in advance,
Nat

Sounds a more like an 8¼" rear axle, to me. In any event, it's not original to the car. Got 9" drums or 10" drums on it?

Nines. Are the bearing systems the same for the 7 1/4 and 8 1/4? (I mean the sealed bearing and retainer style. Not the sizes) I might just buy both sizes and see which ones fit..... I could always return the ones I don't use...

Thanks,
Nat

Ok, so I think I'm 90% convinced I have an 8 1/4" rear under my dart. (10 bolts, drain plug, cover is not round) Now, does anybody have an exploded diagram of an 8 1/4? Specifically the wheel bearings/axle shafts I'd like to see what the insides look like before I explode the one under the car.

Thanks in advance,

Nat

If you want pictures I have part of a disassembled 8 1/4 in the yard. All I have is the empty housing and axles though. The cover was discarded along with the rusty ring and pinion. All I wanted was the Sure-Grip. PM me and I'll snap some photos.
