73 Swinger. I finally installed my 1 1/8 Hellwig front sway bar yesterday. What a difference in handling! But, I can feel the rear pushing the front end (is this oversteer?), so now I want to install a rear sway bar. I have new 5-leaf springs on the back already, and new KYBs all the way around.

Should I get a 3/4 or a 7/8? For some reason the 7/8 is $20 cheaper.

A couple of things on the Hellwig. First of all, the sway bar went through my K frame and fit great, except the attachment plate for the LCA isn't great (and Hellwig gave me bolts, the ones from the sway bar to the LCA, were way too long, I had to go out and buy the proper length). Does anybody have a picture of a factory sway bar tab for the LCA? I may end up welding something better than the Hellwig setup.

If you have oversteer a rear bar will make it worse. The 5 leafs and KYBs are probably all you need. I would drive it for a while and get used to it and see if you really need the rear.

Thanks, I just took it for the one test drive about 5 miles (on a curvy road) after I installed the front sway. I will drive it a while to get a better feel.

A 1/2" sway bar is likely enough for your car and 5/8" is probably plenty. 3/4" and 7/8" are almost always too much and will induce significant oversteer.

I'll agree that 7/8" is too much, but I find 3/4" perfect..........

BTW, that's with stock torsion bars (no doubt smallest available) and stock 4-leaf rear.......


It all depends on you spring stiffness............

I have tried a 3/4" rear bar on two Darts with fairly stiff rear springs, and it makes it way too loose (oversteer). Spend your money on something else fun.
