I woud use sheet metal screws. And it is rather obvious where it will go.

after you put a couple sheet metal screws in to hold it in place I'd buy some fiberglass cloth and resin, then wire wheel the floorboards a few inches around it and fiberglass it in. Youll never see it under the carpet, and itll cut way down on interior noise. I did the whole floorboard this way in my 78 D 300 Dually. Drivers floorpan had "heel holes", passenger side was just "peppered" with holes, basically solid. I welded patches in on the drivers side then fiberglassed the whole floor. You wouldnt believe how much quieter it will be inside!

Just be sure that you do the job right or it will peel off like a band aid. You can't just lay the cloth and brush the resin on. get like a paint roller tray or maybe a few "flats" from the local liquor store, just enuf of a lip on the side to keep the stuff from running all over the place, mix up some resin/hardener, cut the fiberglass cloth in 1-1/2-2" wide strips, and dip the cloth in the resin, then spread it out, overlapping the edges of the hump and the floor, as well as the edges of the f-glass cloth you just laid down, if you do this right you can keep overlapping the edges, then put a 2nd layer over the top, once it dries, you won't be able to see the seams between the cloth strips, itll all dry together and be extremely solid. watch out for air pockets though Use some latex gloves, and smooth it out with your fingers, you can try rolling it out with a small roller like they use for wallpaper, etc. Careful here though, the cloth might want to stick to and roll up with the roller. Messy yes but solid and worth it.
