I seen awhile back were someone posted a topic about using valves out of a 305. Could someone give me some more info about this . What size are they? Are they a direct drop in or do you have to modify the valve or head etc?

The Chevy valves will require custom work as will any oversized valve. I would recommend the SI big valves for the /6. That's what I used on Greg Mader's head. Valves that are larger than that are too big for the ports. I've seen flow numbers for some rather big Ford and Chevy valve /6 heads and they just don't flow any more than the SI valves. The SI valves are made for our engines, which means the machining work is minimal.

You can use SBC valves in the 1.72/1.50 size. I have them in the Valaint. The valves I used have the same stem size as slant (3/8) but they are available in 5/16 as well. I used the Chev springs, retainers etc. You have to get the head machined to accept both the valves and the springs.

Caveat: the Chev valves are longer than the slants....some accomodation for this is necessary.

Is it worth it? absolutely!
