 Post subject: squeaky PCV valve
PostPosted: Tue Mar 20, 2007 11:42 am
So on my slant I have had 2 new PCV valves in the past month. They are both brand new FRAM brand plastic ones, and they both squeak!! I would like to try different ones, but I don't know the criteria for selecting a PCV valve. My slant is a super six with a 350CFM Holley. What kind of PCV valve can I get that doesn't squeak? I tried one off my friend's 340 that is a FRAM metal one (mostly metal) and it worked fine, but I was afraid to buy one incase it pulls too much or too little vacuum.
Ideas?

Fram's stuff (all of it) is generally of poor quality.

Try a NAPA Echlin 2-9207 (you can also get a new grommet at NAPA, Balkamp number 6301051 ). That's a plastic-body valve, the same style Chrysler used from '71 to date, but I've never had one whistle or squeak for me. If you want a metal-housing valve, use ACDelco # CV761C. You can get the CV761C and a new Dorman grommet 42064 (or Airtex 2P1007) at RockAuto. Check your PCV hose and carb base gasket as well as your crankcase breather cap and its grommet to make sure none of those is the source of the squeak via a vacuum leak.

If your PCV valve is squeaking that means that you don't have enough oil blowby to lubricate it. You can solve the problem with a cheap chrome valve cover w/o baffles from Ebay. Usually for around $20.

Good luck,

Joe

Either you are teasing him, or you are giving completely rotten advice. Neither is helpful, nice, or productive, so kindly please cut it out now, thanks. :-)

That was a joke, son. Sorry it wasn't recognized as such.

I don't care who you are, that right there is funny!

:P

Back to the original problem- Since this "squeak" (whistle maybe?) is happeneing with two valves, maybe its a split PCV hose or something outside the valve itself.
