On my 64' Valiant there is a rectangular box that connects the column to the steering box. this is usually packed with grease and then there is a rubber seal to keep all the grease in and a big metal clip that holds the whole thing in place. my question is does anyone know where to get the seal? It being the weekend my normal parts sources are closed. is this a hard to find item? there is also a rubber seal that goes around the column sleeve and the column shaft that I would like to find.any help with this would be much appreciated.

www.steerandgear.com/ has the boot that you are talking about. I use them on my Dart and Duster. The boot slides over the steering shaft, fill the coupling with grease and slide the other end over the coupling and your done. They eliminate the factory rubber seal and the metal ring. Makes for a nice clean install without grease leaking out all over the place. Cost around $15. Hopes this helps.

i'm not sure of the years but the factory part # is 4443436AC for the one on my 74 swinger and this is a kit for the whole rebuild lists for $10.50 and readily available next day from any mopar dealer (kit includes:shoes, spring, seal, retainer, and roll pin)

Double check this. I bought one of the coupler rebuild kits, and it would not fit my 65 Valiant. I understand there is an early (small) coupler, and the later (large) coupler. I'm not sure what year they changed. The large coupler kit is available, I have not found a small coupler kit (have not looked real hard).

my books only go back to 72 so I cant check back to 65 but on dealer connect it states the model year in is 1951 and the model year out is 1996 so it looks like it might work but I do not have a book that goes back that far

That's correct. 1965 was the first year for the large coupler.

Dan are you sure it wasn't 67 for the large coupler? I have three 66 "A" bodies and they all have the small coupler. My 69 has the large. I have the 66 parts manual on disc, and also the 68-69. The 66 part number is different then the 69 part number. Also the 66 picture shows 2 springs inside the coupler, while the 69 shows a sinle "bridge" spring.

PS: neither of these manuals call out a "complete" coupler, just the individual parts.

Pretty sure, yeah...my '62 has the small coupler, my '65 had the large; it's possible there were more than two designs for this coupler.
