Has anyone used or recommends one to bump the throttle when the A/C compressor comes on? I have an aftermarket 4 barrel throttle cable deal. (I can't remember what it called)
When the A/C comes on it drops the rpm about 150 rpm.

Throttle kicker solenoids can indeed keep the idle speed constant (or even speed it up a little) when the A/C engages. They came into use as original equipment on slant-6s only late in the game, the first one was in '76, and it was a vacuum-operated AIS kicker rather than a solenoid. If there's a solenoid readily available and easily adaptible to your carb, go for it. Wiring it up is easy: Find the wire that goes from your interior A/C control to the compressor clutch, connect it to terminal number 86 of a standard dual-output NO relay, ground terminal number 85, connect terminal 30 with a fused 14ga wire to +12v, connect one terminal 87 to the kicker solenoid and the other terminal 87 to the compressor clutch.

Nice lookin' engine, BTW.

Thanks

Those kicker solenoids need a relay? They pull that much power?

Look for a GM anti-dieseling solenoid. They used them in the 70's on lots of models. I do not believe they were relayed.

The solenoid itself doesn't need a relay, but the compressor clutch draws a great deal of power (cooked control switches are common) and using a relay to control both the solenoid and the clutch takes the workload off the control switch (the original workload and the new additional load the solenoid would've added).
