I'm trying to decide whether to put this stock four-blade fan on with a spacer or without.

With the spacer (which is a little under 1 inch) the blades are only 9/16" from the radiator.

If I leave the spacer off, it's 1 1/2".

If the fan is 1 1/2" away, is that a good distance for a fan shroud?

9/16 seems a bit close unless you have solid motor mounts.....

A shroud should cover half of the blade...

The closer the fan to the radiator, the better the low-speed cooling. The '60-'62 A-bodies have almost no clearance (certainly less than an inch) even without a spacer. But yeah, you've got to make sure your engine mounts are in good shape.

I run mine with 1/2 inch space. I cut and milled a spare long spacer to make it happen. I admit to having gooooood mounts! Never ran over 190 degrees yet even at idle in summer.

So is 1 1/2" too far without a shroud?

I'll be running it without a shroud this summer.

Is a 1/2" spacer recommended (fan would be about an inch away)?

The motor mounts are about a year old, but I don't really trust the engine to stand still after I close the hood.

Mine was the same distance, 1 1/2" with the 4 blade and it ran at normal operating temps. I am now running the Mopar clutch fan and 5 blade sold by Summit and I have less than a 1/2" and am using new mounts. It runs luke warm........145 to 155 with a 195 stat. So it is a little too efficient. New 19" Modine radiator and heater cores. I would think with a shroud you would be fine at 1 1/2".
