I've just swapped in a mid seventies /6 into my 67 A-body. I notice there is a bolt holding the adjustment plate underneath the distributor that was a little loose, while the hold down bolt goes through a hole in what I am calling the adjustment plate, instead of through a slot as in the earlier model. Should I leave the bolt a little loose, and tighten by means of the hold down bolt? In the dark- once again.

Is the distributor from your old engine, or the 'new' one. Are you talking about the bolt that is on the underside of the distributor, and accesible only when you take it out?

The distributer is from the new engine and bolt is on the underside as you describe. It bolts through a slot.

It allows for more adjustment. It does need to be tight before install.

Thanks, tight sounds about right. I pretty much tightened it where it was in the slot. The distributer was just rebuilt, I guess they forgot to tighten the bolt.
